HI, MY NAME IS GUINEVERE DOWNEY. I’M THE STATION MANAGER AT VOICES TV.  

TODAY THE NAME OF THE GAME IS ERROR CORRECTIONS ON A GRAND SCALE. THIS SEMESTER, WE HAVE INCORRECTLY REPORTED ON A GREAT NUMBER OF SPORTS EVENTS RELATING TO COLLEGE SPORTS TEAMS, PRIMARILY RELATING TO THE DATES AND TIMES OF SPORTS GAMES OR OTHER SPORTING EVENTS. THESE ERRORS WERE, TO OUR KNOWLEDGE, NOT MADE WITH MALICE OR PLANNING – BUT WERE RATHER THE PRODUCTS OF AN IMPROPERLY IMPLEMENTED SCRIPTING PROCESS FOR OUR WEEKLY SHOW “LANDMARK COLLEGE NEWS.” AS FAR AS WE KNOW, ALL THE ERRORS IN THE SHOW WERE MADE ACCIDENTALLY.  

WE DID NOT DO OUR DUE DILIGENCE IN FACT-CHECKING OUR REPORTING ON SPORTS THIS SEMESTER, AND IN DOING SO, HAVE MISLED THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY RATHER DRAMATICALLY.  

THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF CORRECTIONS AND DATES OF AIRING: 

9/11/23 

• It was incorrectly reported there is a baseball and softball game on 9/13 and 9/16.  

• • Correction – there was no softball game on this date. There was softball interest session on 9/13.  

• It was incorrectly reported “there is and open rock wall tonight.” 

• • Correction—On the day this was recorded this was true, but it was posted after both of these events occurred. 

9/18/23 

• It was incorrectly reported there will be Llamas on Charles Drake Field from 2-5pm 

• • Correction – the LC Soccer team hosted the Llamas (Simon’s Rock at Bard College) for a soccer match at 2pm. 

• It was reported that both the baseball and softball teams have won their games.  

• • Correction – Baseball won by forfeit and there was no softball game at all.  

• It was incorrectly reported “there is and open rock wall meeting tonight from 7:30 to 9pm and a paddleboard trip this Saturday.” 

• • Correction – open rock wall is on Thursdays (the day they recorded the news segment), but the video was posted on Monday. It is an activity, not a meeting. The original Paddleboarding trip date had passed by the posting of the video, and had been postponed to 9/30. 

10/16/23 

• It was incorrectly reported that the soccer team has another rematch against the Putney Soccer Team. 

• • Correction- The soccer team’s game against the Putney Soccer Team was on 10/15, as he had previously reported on 10/9. 

 10/30/23 

• An anchor invites students to join the basketball team for their ramp up to the season, implying that practices are open to spectators.  

• • Correction – this is up to the discretion of the coach. There is no open invite to the greater campus to attend team practices. 

WE WOULD LIKE TO APOLOGIZE MOST SINCERELY FOR OUR ERRORS, BOTH TO THE SPORTS TEAMS AND THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT, BUT ALSO TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY, FOR THE FAILURE TO PROPERLY DOUBLE-CHECK OUR REPORTING. 

WE ARE REWORKING OUR SCRIPTING PROCESS TO ATTEMPT TO MITIGATE FUTURE ERRORS, AND HOPE YOU WILL HAVE PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING FOR OUR SMALL STAFF.
