The newest live action anime is a brand-new adaptation of One Piece. The live action has a great cast, starring Iñaki Godoy as the main character, Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd stars as Nami, Taz Skylar plays Sanji, Morgan Davies as Koby, Mackenyu takes the role as Zoro, and Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown and more. One Piece as it’s known is a long running manga series since the 90’s, which was created by Eiichiro Oda and published under weekly shonen jump. One Piece is an epic high-seas adventure unlike other stories.
The main character, Luffy is a young adventurer who has yearned for a life of independence since he was a child. He embarks on a risky voyage from his small hamlet in search of the legendary fabled treasure, the One Piece, in order to become King of the Pirates.
One Piece has had some other incarnations. The one with the biggest lead is the anime that’s based off of the manga, which now has over a thousand episodes to its name. So recently a One Piece live action was released by Netflix, which was revealed a while before its initial release. A common theme among these live action versions of anime stories is that they tend to be disappointing to the fan’s standards, which is just putting it lightly. A reason that usually happens with live action versions of anime is possibly due to the team producing having little to no involvement from the original authors. We’ve seen similar occurrences happen in the past, like with the live action Death Note also on Netflix.
This time it’s been done right, with One Piece accomplishing feats people would see as impossible for live actions based on the long history of live action anime failures. The live action One Piece adaptation has been shown to be different, receiving positive reviews from fans and other critics alike.
Even reviewers on YouTube are giving it solid ratings. CBR, where they often review media such as anime and movies, compiled a list of top 10 reasons why the One Piece live action is as good as it is, on their website. Many fans of the series will be glad to know that Oda was heavily involved in the production of the live action.
Netflix’s One Piece live action also took steps to make it more beginner-friendly, making it likable as a 2-hour digestible sample of the original source material. However, this does limit its appeal for longtime fans. Two students from Landmark College do think the live action looks pretty good too.
The One Piece live action also does the makeup really well on characters. For instance, a character named “Buggy the Clown” can be seen as scary, with the live action having some solid horror elements in it. the character Klahadore aka Captain Kuro was originally a menacing and wicked pirate captain in the One Piece anime, so also has his crew out at nights and not just broad daylight.
The performance of the main cast just might break or make any live-action film, TV show, or anime and how well it does. There are films that are known for spectacular and immersive acting that fans consider to be irreplaceable. Even if live-action anime is deemed unlikely to reach such levels of quality, One Piece is beating the odds.. Another thing people are liking about the live action is that characters are more realistic in the aspect that they show actual signs of physical aging, while the original source material doesn’t really show too much aging on the characters.
Fans of the live action One Piece are so happy that some of them are even asking for live actions of other anime series, like FMA.
