Simone Biles is an American gymnast and Olympic athlete. Simone was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio to her mother Shanon Biles. However, her birth mother couldn’t raise Simone and her siblings, so they were put into foster care, before eventually being taken in by their maternal grandfather in 2000 and formally adopted in 2003. She attended Benfer Elementary School before switching to homeschooling in 2012. She would graduate high school in mid-2015.
Simone’s gymnastic journey began at the age of 6 after a day-care field trip. She would enroll in Bannon’s Gymnastics and be coached by Aimee Boor at the age of eight. In 2016 she competed in Brazil for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. In Rio, she would win her first gold medal in the team event. She would end up winning five medals in the 2016 Summer Olympics. Throughout her career, she has won 11 Olympic medals, 30 World Championship medals, and 2 Pacific Rim Championship medals.
Did you know Simone Biles has ADHD? In September 2016, she was accused of doping to enhance her performance by Russian Media. This occurred because a Russian espionage group hacked into the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Simone would end up disclosing on Twitter that she has ADHD. She was permitted to take her medication since she had a Therapeutic Use Exemption. This is a document that allows athletes to use medication listed on the WADA prohibited list. In 2024, she would become the first female artistic gymnast to compete in three Olympic games.
