According to the Landmark Academic Speaker Series website, On October 9th, starting at 5:00 P.M, Portia Allie Turco is coming to speak in the Brooks M. O’Brien Auditorium in the Lewis Academic Building. Turco is an assistant professor, program coordinator, and clinical director at State University Of New York, in Plattsburgh. According to the state university of Plattsburg, she has two decades of experience with the aim of helping students by encouraging self awareness to use their power to create an impact. She believes in shared learning as a way to build community, which hopefully she will implement in her presentation on the 9th!
In this event, she will be focusing on the historical and societal views and implications that are associated with disability along with how these views shape not only public policies, but attitudes that affect them into the current day. This is crucial to not only our own sense of selves, but also to be self aware of the environment around us beyond school grounds.
