Comedian, professional speaker, and author, Nina G will be performing at 7PM on Oct. third at the Greenhoe Theater in the Fine Arts Building. Nina G has performed comedy for 13 years, starting out with dyslexia and a stutter but by pushing through she has been able to have a fruitful career, according to Landmark College’s website,
On the comedian’s website, Nina G’s routine is described as self-aware, using humor to allow people to see beyond the perceptions of what it means to be neurodivergent, and as a gateway for people to understand the lives of neurodivergent people and the importance of access and empowerment.
Fun fact, Nina G was once featured as a TED Talk speaker. In her talk she describes to the audience how to be an ally for people with neurodiversity, using a conversational style to speak about her stutter, and the microaggressions that she faces. An important message that she conveys to the crowd in this TED talk was the concept of the “Everyday Ally” where by redefining what it means to be an ally, just by understanding and implementing that understanding in your actions can make you an ally. You don’t need to do anything drastic that could be seen as relational to allies.
If you like comedy or want to learn more about neurodiversity in society, this will be a good event to attend! We hope to see you there!
