Luz Noceda is the main character of the popular Disney Channel show, The Owl House created by Dana Terrace. The Owl House follows Luz, a teenage girl, who after her principal and mother wants her to go to camp due to her interests and quirks. After a mishap with a book report involving snakes Luz stumbles upon a portal to another dimension called the Boiling Isles a magical but strange place filled with witches. In the Boiling Isles Luz meets Eda the Owl Lady and her tiny companion King. Not wanting to go to camp Luz decides to stay with Eda and King in the owl house and learns to be a witch.
In an Interview by a YouTuber named It’s Rebecca Rose with Dana Terrace and Matt Braly, Dana confirms that Luz is in fact neurodiverse. In the interview, she addresses a question from a fan about whether Luz had ADHD or not where she states, “It was absolutely my intention to make Luz neurodivergent, but back in 2016-17 when I was first working with that character, I had never heard that word before.” She continues by explaining how she researched the word and talked to other neurodivergent people before saying, “just seeing it more and talking to people about it, yeah Luz is absolutely neurodivergent and people who see her with adhd? Yeah. Yeah, she has adhd.”
Throughout the show, Luz is shown to have traits associated with people who are neurodiverse. She often acts impulsively, getting hyper fixated on her interests, or getting distracted in various situations. Luz is also shown to struggle with communicating with others. However, since she learns differently, she helps others to see things in a different light. Luz Noceda is a very interesting character and if you’re interested, I encourage you to check The Owl House out.
