Welcome to the weekly Minecart, a weekly story about the events in Thomas Kuzma’s Landmark Minecraft server.
As I touched on in the previous issue, I underwent an undercover project. Why may you ask? Well…I wanted to test my creativity in a way that I normally haven’t before. I don’t think of myself as the ‘best’ designer out there, but I’m happy with what I make.
This house was designed as a little free time project out of partial boredom. Before TK’s summer games kicked off, most players in the server would go exploring, mining, and advancing their bases on their own terms independently, with some assistance. Things were tranquil and peaceful, so after numerous other building projects, I decided to embark on a house on an island.
My design process starts with figuring out the materials I want to use, which in a lot of cases tends to gravitate towards wooden materials. I have considered a brick house in the past, but my designs haven’t satisfied me yet. Who knows, I could finally hit the jackpot on that soon. However, for now, I’ve shelved the idea while I work on other things. The hardest part of designing this whole house was the placement of the sand. Unlike other blocks in Minecraft, blocks like sand, gravel (to name a few) are affected by gravity, and will fall if placed above air. So it would take longer than usual to place sand, for this reason. There are a few ways around it, like using stone to create a buffer so the sand does not fall, or by using the /fill command. While it would work, it would ruin the personal authenticity of the building itself and could easily be discovered by some very curious people.
This house features 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom on the second floor, full kitchen & living room down below. It also has a gorgeous view of the ocean from the porch and a pergola over a big dining table. Personally, if I wanted a house in Minecraft, I’d buy this house in a heartbeat.
More to come in Volume 6!
If you want to join Minecraft Night, the session meets weekly on Mondays from 8-10 P.M. online and in Davis Hall #002. (Only open to LC Students)

I’d buy that house, too. Nice work, Owain!
